San Diego Regional Policy & Innovation Center (PIC) Board Member Susan Davis served in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing San Diego’s Central District from 2001-2021. During her tenure, Davis served on the Armed Services Committee, Education and Workforce Committee, and in her last few years, the House Administration and Election Reform Committee.
In addition to her board roles with PIC and service as a house representative, Davis was elected to the California State Assembly in 1994 and served for the next two terms. Here, Davis chaired the Committee on Consumer Protection, Economic Development, and Government Efficiency, advocating for women’s health care and the protection of medical privacy.
Davis began her political career through the local branch of the League of Women Voters, eventually becoming president in 1977, working to increase the understanding of public policy issues through instruction and advocacy on a national and local level. Davis served as executive director of the Aaron Price Fellows Program from 1990 to 1994, leading professionals to teach citizenship skills to multiethnic high school students. Simultaneously, Davis served on the San Diego School Board from 1983 until 1992, holding both vice president and president positions.
In 2013, Davis received the Congressional Management Foundation’s Life in Congress Award for a worker-friendly office, boosting morale and professional development. In 2020, Davis was inducted as a Trailblazer into the San Diego Women’s Hall of Fame.
Davis earned her bachelor’s in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley and master’s degree in social work from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
